Al-Qaida calls for revolt against Arab rulers

CAIRO (AP) - Al-Qaida's offshoot in Yemen urged Muslims to revolt against Arab rulers and establish governments based on Islamic law, according to an audio tape posted Saturday on militant websites.
The appeal came at a time of growing political unrest in the Arab world. Popular uprisings have deposed the leaders of Tunisia and Egypt, and anti-government protests are gaining momentum in Libya, Yemen and Bahrain.
The speaker on the audio tape is identified as Ibrahim al-Rubeish, a former detainee at the U.S.-run Guantanamo Bay lockup. The tape was produced by al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, a Yemen-based offshoot of the terror network, according to the SITE Intel group, a U.S.-based group that monitors extremist websites.
In the 10-minute recording, Al-Rubeish criticized Saudi Arabia for providing a haven for deposed Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.
He also said toppling longtime rulers is not enough and that new governments must be established based on Islamic religious law, or Shariah.
"One tyrant goes, only to be replaced another who may fix for the people some of their worldly issues by offering job opportunities and increasing their income, but the greater problem remains," al-Rubeish said, according to a translation provided by SITE.

In Shari'a law, it is illegal for a Muslim to kill a fellow Muslim, but it is not illegal for a Muslim to kill a kafir. A kafir is an unbeliever, an infidel.
Political Islam has a good definition also: Defining Kafir, complete with quotes from the Qur'an describing how Muslims ought to deal with kafirs. It's not pretty.

BAIJI, Iraq, Feb 26 (Reuters) - Militants attacked Iraq's largest oil refinery on Saturday, killing four workers and detonating bombs that touched off a raging fire and shut down the plant in northern Iraq, officials said.
In the southern town of Samawa, a second refinery was shut down by fire but officials said initial reports indicated it was started by a technical failure rather than an insurgent attack.
The militants planted explosives at a kerosene and benzene production unit at the northern refinery in the town of Baiji, a former al Qaeda stronghold 180 km (112 miles) north of Baghdad, the governor of Salahuddin province, Ahmed al-Jubouri, said.
"The refinery has completely stopped," Jubouri told Reuters. "It's a big loss for the whole country. All Iraqi cities depend on its production."
Oil Minister Abdul-Kareem Luaibi said the "terrorist attack" hit only one production unit, which was under maintenance, and the remaining units have not been damaged.
"The attack is part of a terrorist plan, which targets Iraq's oil facilities and aims to undermine the Oil Ministry after it succeeded in supplying enough oil products to meet domestic needs," he said in a statement read to Reuters.

Then on Wednesday the ABA issued a statement in response to my article, claiming that “the American Bar Association has taken no action in support of, or in opposition to, judges considering Islamic law or Sharia.”How dishonest and disingenuous.The ABA statement said that the organization has “nearly 400,000 members, many of whom volunteer with any of the ABA’s 2,200 entities. One of those 2,200 entities is the Section on International Law, which has elected to assemble a taskforce of several individuals to examine this issue.” The statement makes it sound as if this examination is completely neutral: “These individuals are examining whether the proposed changes to the law impact important constitutional questions. They are also considering implications for international commerce.”Above all, the ABA claims that this taskforce has nothing to do with the organization itself: “The actions of a few interested members within one section are not and cannot be interpreted to be those of the entire American Bar Association. Claims to the contrary are erroneous.”This is spin and damage control. A New Jersey Transportation Security Administration officer on Thursday pleaded guilty to federal charges that he and his supervisor regularly stole from passengers during screenings at Newark Liberty International Airport, according to federal prosecutors.
Officer Al Raimi, 29, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Newark. He admitted that for nearly a year, he stole between $10,000 and $30,000 in cash from travelers as they passed through a security checkpoint at the airport.
Raimi admitted that he would "kick up" some of that money to a supervisor, who in turn allowed him to keep stealing. The supervisor, Michael Arato, pleaded guilty earlier this month to accepting kickbacks and bribes.

Infamous UK Cleric Plans Thursday Sharia Rally in D.C.: ‘Rise to Implement the Shari’ah in America’
This coming Fourth of July, Muslims are planning a “Million Muslim March” in D.C. to “re-establish the feelings of brother and sisterhood among Muslim Americans“ and start the ”healing” process after 9/11. And while there is no indication that rally will dabble in Sharia law, a different D.C. march scheduled for Thursday boldly declares its goal of bringing Sharia law “directly to the doorsteps of the United States of America.”
The rally is being spearheaded by radical UK Muslim cleric Anjem Choudary, who recently told Sean Hannity Americans are “the biggest criminals in the world today,“ and in October announced ”the flag of Islam will one day fly over the White House.” His group, Islam4UK, has been outlawed in Britain.

Caturo, ontem assisti a uma palestra interessante sobre os judeus na ex-União Soviética. Independentemente de se estar aqui a falar de judeus, a teoria pode ser aplicada aos povos europeus. Acho que ias ter gostado: começou-se por falar do conceito etnia/nação-religião que nos tempos pré-cristãos tinha o mesmo significado, passando pela opinião pública durante o século XX sobre "O que é ser judeu?", se etnia, se religião, se cultura... E curiosamente a maior parte dos inquiridos na Ucrânia e na Rússia respondem que é ser descendente de judeus=sangue. Falou-se também do facto de apesar de ser raro um judeu na URSS viver numa comunidade judaica (era do interesse do Estado quebrar tais laços, em nome do comunismo) a verdade é que a maior parte citava 2 judeus entre os seus 3 melhores amigos. Mais: a fraca confiança numa vizinhança heterogénea em termos étnicos.
Falou-se também da luta contra o tempo em que a URSS tentava a todo o custa quebrar os laços de comunidades étnicas promovendo o casamento entre diferentes grupos - o comunismo dependia também dessa quebra de identidade para que o Estado passe a ser o elo de toda aquela população, para que não seja ameaçado por laços de sangue.
Conclusão: a URSS, se não perdeu, pelo menos também não ganhou a batalha contra a herança genética que prova ser mais forte que qualquer ideologia. Isto não é uma conclusão minha, mas sim do professor. Isto no Canadá, que apesar de ter o forte lobby islâmico sempre parece ter mais abertura ao debate do que a Europa.
Relativamente ao lobby islâmico, a minha parece-me que pelo menos em Toronto ele é muito contrabalançado pelo lobby gay. Ou seja, dá-me a impressão de que que o islão atacar o lobby gay é capaz de sair a perder... Também já notei uma coisa diferente do que se passa na Europa: há MUITO mais imigrantes (metade da população de Toronto não nasceu cá) mas é muito raro ver um casal de diferentes etnias, principalmente no que toca a asiáticos. Isto não quer dizer que não estejam "integrados", porque muitos deles ocupam boas posições na sociedade -- apenas me parece que a solução não-melting pot à americana faz com que a sociedade canadiana seja menos violenta e misturada. Apesar de tudo isto me parecer tão temporário, tão novo..é tão organizado que nem parece natural. Mas enfim, não é Europa, custa a entender.

e o comunismo é, sempre foi bem mais do que apenas uma ideologia económica.
é uma ideologia genocida geral e não apenas economicista, que procura destruir todos os laços naturais e tradicionais da sociedade...com fins económicos, é verdade, mas não só.

exacto. ser judeu é sangue e não religião ou lingua ou cultura. mesmo que alguns pensem dessa maneira.
quanto a etnia e religião ser o mesmo nos tempos pré-cristãos, tudo bem, mas isso era num tempo diferente, em que não havia perigo nenhum (ou quase nenhum) de a religião nos levar a confusões, uma vez que ela coincidia quase sempre com a etnia/sangue.
mas nos dias de hoje... a coisa tem que ser vista de modo totalmente diferente.
e mesmo antigamente (pré-cristo) havia casos em que a religião nem sempre coincidia com a etnia...

em termos de etnias, a URSS podia ser pior.
mas em termos de raças gerais...não sei qual dos dois era pior.

em termos meramente raciais (e mesmo étnicos) o fascismo não se distingue muito do comunismo.
o fascismo só teve algumas leis raciais na Itália e mesmo aí foi por pressão/influência hitleriana/nazi.
porque de resto...foi uma pobreza.
