Arthur Schopenhauer sobre as raças humanas:

Não sei qual seria a ancestralidade dele, mas era inglês, então etnicamente seria germânico. Que geneticamente possa ter uma raiz pré-germânica, isso é outra coisa, mais complexa, e essa tanto pode ser céltica como até romana, ou então pós-anglo-saxónica, de algum francês chegado com os Normandos ou mesmo de imigrantes meridionais europeus que possam ter-se lá fixado.
O que parece verdade é que há muita gente curiosamente morena em Gales e na Irlanda, mas talvez mais em Gales, nação indubitavelmente céltica, que recebeu alguma influência romana, e que, durante a ocupação romana, tinha uma tribo indígena, a dos Silures, que um autor romano disse ser provavelmente originária da Ibéria devido à sua aparência meridional, uma vez que esta gente era morena e tinha cabelo encaracolado.
